Smiling is way better than frowning
In today's society we are more likely to look at the world through a piece of technology instead of just opening our eyes. I am just as guilty of this, doing most of my school and work form my phone and laptop. We are constantly shown drive thru businesses, mobile apps, online shopping, while all convenient, we our limiting our interaction with people. To add to this human interactions get bogged down by selfishness, entitlement, or ego filled hierarchy. I have witness countless occasions where customers treat employees horribly because they aren't getting instant gratification. There has been many, many times when my boyfriend and I will be standing in line, watching the horrible display of negative energy and projection. We make it a point to be absolutely as nice as we possibly can to the person with whom the projection was towards. This is why I am happy to be nice!
The world needs nice, it needs more people to be compassionate and understanding. When was the last time you asked the barista at Starbucks how their day was and actually meant it? What about giving a stranger a compliment without expecting something back from them. I have noticed more and more that we are starving for connection, communication and interaction with each other. With all the shiny new things out there and everyone staring at screens, televisions or who knows what else we look at, human interaction is getting less and less. This can make general kindness horribly mistaken. Some consider those who are kind to be weak, some mistake it for flirting, and some just abuse those who are kind to them. It is up to us to break this cycle.
I can remember hearing most of my life, being honest can get you into trouble, you have to be a bitch to get ahead, and even just plain you are way to nice. As if there's anything wrong with that. I like being nice, I like helping others have a better day. It doesn't mean I'm without faults or mistakes, we are all here to learn from this life. I have recently begun a practice and observation of being genuinely kind/nice to others and watching their actions. It is so rewarding to see a smile come from kind words. I have seen days brighten, smiles widen, and friends blossoming all from just one kind word.
