How fairy tales can shape your world!

"I want adventure in the great wide somewhere, I want it more than I can tell. And for once it might be grand to have someone understand, I want so much more than they have planned." - Beauty & The Beast
I have and will always be a fan of Fairy tales. Fairy tales were not just meant to warn us about the dangers of the world. They were also meant to show us how to overcome the many obstacles we will face in our lives. Many make the misconception that fairy tales are all rainbows, sparkly wonders and happy endings. Yes, while they have those elements scattered through them, if you look closer they have deeper and sometimes darker messages.

Yes, I am an avid Disney fan but their versions of our classic tales are a bit watered down compared to their original counterparts. Hansel & Gretel's parents left them in the woods on purpose, Sleeping beauty was raped, and the wolf actually ate the grandmother. Most of the stories had some pretty gruesome revenge aspects to them but only to show the consequences of harmful actions.
Wishing Well
Fairy tales showed me that as a girl I was capable of doing anything, even if in a dress. They helped give me courage, patience and to shape how I told my stories. They showed that no matter where you come from you can be brave, strong and make it trough battles. No evil queens, dark wizards, dragons nor curses can hinder our destinies. That we are responsible for the choices we make and the actions we take. We have to take control of our lives and fairy tales show us how to do that.

While I have a few personal favorites; Mulan, who showed me that even girls can fight like badasses and we must fight for what we believe in. Belle, because she liked to read, she was creative and thought outside the box, not to mention she loved adventure. But my absolute favorite that will always hold a special place in my heart...Snow White. The A severely underrated princess with one of the strongest stories.
Snow White
There a actually a few versions of Snow's story that I've found. There is one where the Evil Queen was actually her mother jealous of her daughters beauty, youth and charm. There's the wicked step mother version and then there are the ones with and with out her sister, Ruby Rose. The version really doesn't matter, it just gives each person something personally relatable.

Snow was the princess that I related to the most. Her love of animals, forest and the seven dwarves. Even though she was being hunted by the queen she still found the heart to take care of strangers and make friends. She believed the best in everyone and even though life has it's darkness, she still saw moments of sunshine. In some versions she knows how to fight and hunt, she is strong willed and forceful. She believes in love and wants nothing more than happiness for all. Something I have held strong beliefs in all my life.

What's your favorite fairy tale? What story or character do you relate to the most? What story helped you in/through the dark times? And what story holds the most meaning for you? Use these qualities in your every day life and help make your world a brighter more magical place.

The single girls guide to wandering

3/19/2018

There are those of us called to adventure, the thirst for discovery and unleashing our free spirits to the wild. We dream of roaming and wandering around not we aimless dreams but with focused purpose.

We float through cities spreading our magic and charm and blow away on the breeze when we are done.

Something that I have learned in my years of wandering is that we must let our wild roam. There is something inside of us, the wild woman, that yearns to be released. When we explore new surrounds we are connecting to the mother and helping to understand her ways. We are a culture that shares dreams on social media but dare not to experience those dreams ourselves. Is it because it is safer? We place timelines and deadlines and say that we will someday we will take our dream vacation. When will it ever be the right time, the right amount of money, or without the stress of "reality".

We can not just sit behind our screens and expect to keep our spirit caged. She wants for the wild, the connection and the experience.

I have been traveling the world from a small child to a adult. I have always loved the process and preparations. When I was old enough I started to go on solo adventures as often as I could. I started with day trips, moved into weekend expeditions and then week long journey's. One of the biggest concerns I hear from others is the matter of safety and being a single woman roaming around the unknown.

There are many precautions but you shouldn't have to fear going on an adventure because of that.

That's what an adventure is all about, letting go of personal fears and restrictions. While I can't promise anything I only know of my experiences in traveling alone. I have always tried to play it smart and prepare myself. Know about where you are going, learn about the culture, where to eat, what to see, and even where public bathrooms are going to be. Know and understand your weaknesses and hone in on your strengths.

Know where you are headed and just place one foot in front of the other. .

Wandering gives me a sense of freedom. I have always been a bit of a nomad and love seeing new things. I am mostly prone to outdoors or places of historic interest. But throughout all my travels nothing beats the feelings you get along the way. Remember we weren't just made to live to work and work to live. And yes while I know we all must pay the price for our realities. Bills, food, shelter, necessities. But life is about balance and we can strive to level both sides of the scale.

Denying ourselves freedom to be wild only shackles our spirits down to the reality of other's existence and expectations.

My tips for the single girl wanderer:
  • research the area your are going
  • pack for all weather types
  • when going to another country try to learn basic communications
  • talk to locals
  • make a gentle list of things you would like to experience
  • always bring your journal and pen
  • spend time enjoying the views
  • be cautious but not scared
  • have fun
  • share your journey

10 magical things to do this Spring

3/18/2018

Ostara and the spring equinox are just around the corner. The past couple of days here in Colorado has been absolutely beautiful. Windows down, music up kind of weather. Yet right now it's in the 30's and the snow is just pouring down.  I have my fireplace going, candles lit and jazz playing in the background. I feel as if I am all cozied up inside my little hobbit hole of an apartment, and I am beyond happy right now.

This spring will bring us a giant shift into a beautiful transformation. Retrograde will be the big helper in pushing this energy forward. It may be overwhelming, we must trust that we are being guided to the next chapter and lead into the direction of a brighter future. We can harness the energy of the spring. We are rebirthing into a new version of ourselves. Let out some of your youthful spirit and enjoy all the senses around you. Have some fun.

Besides transformation and rebirth, Spring can be a great time of fun. Spring reminds me of a magical time when we would run through fields of flowers only to fall to rest besides of a pond. It's getting outdoors and slowly coming out of hibernation of our houses. While I admit I am adjusting to a whole new set of allergies out here, I still soak up every nice day I can. I made a list of some of the magical things I want to do this spring and hope something sparks your interest.

10 magical things to try this spring:
  1. Visit your local Botanical Gardens - bring a journal or your favorite book and sit amongst a fairy tale landscape. This is a great option for folks who have longer snow seasons. It will allow you to see the spring transformation and breath in the life of the world around you.
  2. Take a drive along a scenic roadway - This is has been one of my favorite things to do in Colorado. I love finding a new scenic road to roam. It just feels so good to hold your hand out the window surfing it on the air whilst your favorite song plays in the background.
  3. Have a sun rise picnic - I did this one spring in South Fl, a friend and I woke up early, made a breakfast picnic and headed to the beach to watch the sunrise. It was such a beautiful experience to drink my coffee as the sun and I were waking up together.
  4. Take a girls day trip - What's better than getting the girls together, heading down the highway, jamming to tunes and laughing about inside jokes. Look up a place in your state you've always wanted to go to and pack the car.
  5. Have a equinox ceremony - Celebrate the coming of spring and all that you want to focus your energy on. Make a list of things you would like to let go/attract into your life. Spend time to be grateful for all the lessons and rewards the winter has shown you and welcome the warmth of spring in happiness.
  6. Create a spring altar - Flowers, seeds, herbs, crystals and orange candles. Focus your intention on honoring the coming of the sun and the hope for all your work the past few months will come to fruition. Think harvest and bounty of your manifestations and lessons. .
  7. Make a flower crown - Whimsical, pretty, and fun. Be the Queen of the fairies for a day..
  8. Have a tea party with a garden theme - Pretty table cloths, flowers, finger foods, fancy tea cups and pretty dresses. Bonus if you and your friends wear big hats.
  9. Get a reading - See what's in the cards for you this coming spring. Gain clarity and insight to the coming weeks.
  10. Take a walk in the woods - The woods are a great place to see things young/old, death/birth. Mother animals and their spring babies, flowers pushing through the cold ground. The woods are a great place to work things out that you are having a hard time letting go of. This is also a great place for taking off your shoes and ground yourself with the earth.

That's a whole lotta retrograde

Hello everyone!
The clouds are coming over the mountain ushering in a fresh storm. You can feel the change on the winds. We've been going through so much astrologically the past few months and we're about to get a little jolt again. For the next 6-8 weeks we will have to planets in retrograde and we will be entering Ostara (The spring equinox). And yes you heard that correctly, two planets will be in retrograde.

In a few days the lovely planet Jupiter, will go into retrograde and leads us into the shadow of Mercury. During February many of us left it feeling grumpy or frustrated with things in our lives. Coming into March we will be able to look at what was frustrating us and begin to focus on a more active role in our lives. We will learn through this process that we are fluid and ever changing. Completely capable of finding new opportunities and solutions.

This will be the month to reinvent yourself. Take a look at all the areas in your life and rebirth from the ashes of your past. This is not the time to play victim, for if we continue to play this role during this time we will not grow. Learn the difference between sacrifices and compromise. This is the time to keep faith strong and trust that you are being guided. Invoke the strength of spirit and walk into your power.

Alright, let's talk retrogrades. Jupiter going into retrograde will bring up some of our shadow sides. Which will be challenging because we will come directly in terms with what is holding us back. This coupled with Mercury this will be doubly a time to pay attention to things. Starting today watch what you say and be extra communicative this month. Mercury in retrograde will be in the sign of Aries. This will give us a does of realness and truth, and it will hit us head on.

During this time focus on the past few months and the areas you need to transform. Instead of rushing in to "fix" these situations, go into them gently. This is not a month to rush into anything, retrograde tendencies still stand true. The good thing about this will be the outcome. We will gain a more confident approach in life and will care less of what others think. This will be our time to show who we are and not what we are.

While we are stepping into our power and gaining some much needed confidence, we must also remember this will be a time to exercise patience. This is an excellent time to inspire others and not to take things personally. While both planets are in retrograde it will be a great time to try creative solutions. Think outside the box and do not be afraid to express your talents. But staying humble and grateful at the same time. Think helping others without expecting any reward or popularity.
Picture
Once we go through our retrogrades we will rise through spring like a Phoenix from her ashes. We will have a better knowledge of ourselves, body and what we want moving forward into the year. The next few weeks remember to recenter as much as you need and take time for yourself. Stay true to what you want and what you no longer need. Forgive what needs forgiving, let go of what is hurting you and focus on what makes you stronger.

This period will last us from March 8th - April 15th.

Things to remember:
  • Journal Journal Journal
  • When asking for signs and messages in your readings, make sure to ask of your highest purpose
  • Pay attention to details, small print and communication
  • Make lists
  • Be specific in what you want and what you no longer need in your life
  • Be patient, understanding and forgiving
  • Take time to yourself
  • Rest, refocus, review and reboot
  • Stay strong and push through
  • Honor your feelings and grow through them
  • Have a retrograde party with your friends
