The Start of it all
Being in the middle of a move and having many of my items in boxes has limited my home yoga practice and I can certainly tell the difference. So to keep from being hard on myself I decided to write about my beloved hobby.
I first came to yoga through a great friend of mine, she was a teacher and wanted to help me with my anxiety issues. She recommended certain stretches and poses that I could do to not only strengthen my body but also my mind. Although I throughly enjoyed her sessions, it wasn't until I started taking Vinyasa classes with my bf that I truly become hooked. The classes were almost two hours long and heated to about 90 degrees. I can not exaggerate on this. I remember the first time the instructor told us how hot he liked to make it I thought I was going to walk out. I'm so glad I didn't. By the end of the first class I was completely addicted.
For ten weeks, every Thursday the two of us were first in line and the first to line up at the front of the class. Very opposite of our introverted personalities. But we loved it! Our instructor was one of those people that light just followed them around. His playlist was a mixture of upbeat positive songs and down tempo relaxing tunes. You started full of energy and ended feeling incredibly amazing and relaxed.
By going to these classes I was inspired to continue my yoga practice at home and tested out multiple websites, apps and books. I even got my boyfriend to start practicing. I have been practicing yoga seriously for over three years now and I have never looked back. There is something about learning about our bodies and mind through a very ancient practice.
