Hello Spring You're So Sparkly
Wow! the weather here has been one for the record I tell ya! Cool days, some chilly nights and a lot of sunny days. Ahhhhh, hello spring! The start of spring I was feeling chipper and full of motivation, one night after yoga my girl Taramor was telling me about this new thing called the Spark Joy lifestyle. Showing me the piles of bags on the floor full of things ready to go out for donation. She walked around and showed me how organized her closets and cabinets are. I knew I needed to follow her example. I was so excited to jump on board that the second I got home I immediately googled the Spark Joy methods.
Created by Marie "KonMari" Kondo, who runs a consulting business in Tokyo, turned her passion of organizing and tidying up into a wonderful book of her method. The key to this whole project is in the words, Spark Joy. The idea is you take your place room by room and get rid of anything that doesn't sparkle for you or give you joy. Give away clothes that you haven't worn in a while, re organize those kitchen cabinets full of appliances, and go through your office papers just lying all over the place.
I showed my boyfriend the wonders of this new found excitement and asked if he would join in the fun. Being the amazing Virgo he is, he couldn't wait. Yes! We started with the bedroom and moved up through the entire apartment. It was incredible. Music blasting, jokes, trying on old clothes and laughing at how much stuff we really don't use. Doing this really put things in perspective for us, well mostly for me. I tend to hold on to things because of sentimental reasons, oh water baby, so getting rid of things is one of the hardest things ever. but as we kept going I felt amazing, I didn't want to stop. It felt absolutely amazing to de-clutter our place. I feel that our apartment is lighter, brighter and much bigger. Using methods like rolling our clothes, using storage that we already have, putting appliances that we use on the counter, we were able to make our space way more functional. I totally encourage you to try this amazing project, especially if you haven't gotten on the spring cleaning bandwagon yet. It's super simple and has so many benefits.
