It has been a long journey for me on the path to self love. Self doubt, insecurities, self worth, and low self respect. A constant battle of who I was and where I wanted to be. I used to think it was glamorous to be the troubled young woman. Mixed this with a shit ton of alcohol and you've got a case of the ifs. "If I was pretty enough, if I was thinner, If I had this job...I'd be happier...I would have that guy." It wasn't until I hit the lowest point of my life that I realized, something has got to change, like right now! It was at that moment I knew I had to choose me.
Flash forward a few years to now. While I still have battles with that inner goblin called the ego, I am happier, healthier and way more livelier. That's why I wanted to share it with you. Sometimes it's hard to start on your own, things seem way less overwhelming when you know someone else has gone through it. That's why there are so many self help/healing books out there, (my favorite section in the book store, I'm kinda addicted.) Healers wanna help and we speak from experience so you never have to feel alone.
It's time to chose the most important person in your life, you. An amazing, wonderful spirit on this planet. You have every right to make yourself the number person in your life. Your feelings, thoughts and happiness are yours and yours alone. So what's next?
If you're anything like me you'll probably walk around your apartment bursting with ideas and contradicting your self at the same time. Totally cool. Get out your journal, laptop, notebook and create a page called, My self love ideas. (sounds dirty huh? hehe) As a thought pops into your head write it down on this page and continue your brainstorming process, we will organize in a minute. Next turn on some tunes and dance around, round one done!
After your little dance party, come back to your journal. Time to organize your thoughts. On the top of a blank page write this promise to yourself, "I solemnly swear that I will do what ever it takes to be happy." Feel free to edit to make it your own too, the more it's catered to your personality the better. Now break up your ideas into three sections; Self dates, Me time, and Your "it's going to be ok" moments.
The first section Self dates, are dates you take yourself on once or twice a week. Self dates can include places, classes, outings, a picnic in the park, etc. Things you really want to go to, do and see. It's time to get to know yourself, double dare you to step outside your comfort zone. Find your adventurous side. Put these dates in your phone, set reminders and record the juicy details in your journal.
The second section, Me time, are going to be all the things you need private time for, reading, exercising, manicure, or even just sitting on the couch and catching up on your favorite show. These are the times you will take for yourself to learn to be patient with yourself. These you want to do multiple times a week.
The final section, are the things you do when you've had a rough day, week or just need to take a moment. These are your "get out of jail free card" items. These help you learn to accept yourself in the worst occasions. To be able to take a moment but not wallow can be very healing. They also can be double edged swords, so be careful and really discerning when adding these. If you think one should be scratched, chances are you're right. Don't do anything that will keep you upset.
Once you have your plan, put it into action. Set a start date and commit to it. You've got this, its a tiny step on the road to discovery. We are all in this together. Let me know how it goes. Hugs dreamers <3
